Karen Muraoka

Karen Muraoka, AAHID, IIDA, ASID, currently serves as the Vice President and Chairperson for the Advisory Council for the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers. She is a Founding Member of AAHID.

Karen is a Senior Associate and the Interior Design Studio Leader at Architects Hawaii, Ltd. in Honolulu, Hawaii. 

Karen is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley in Design. She has worked in Healthcare Interior Design for 30 years. Her specific healthcare focus includes Acute Care, Emergency Departments, Psychiatric Facilities, Pediatric Care, Women’s Care and Wellness Centers.

Karen is a speaker for healthcare design seminars and forums for Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kameda Medical Center in Kamogawa City, Japan and for Daishinsha also located in Japan. She has received design excellence awards for the medical projects in Japan and Hawaii as well as for historical preservation work completed for the University of Hawaii. She is a Director for the Honolulu City Center IIDA and on the Board for the Northern California Chapter IIDA.
