Betsy Brawley, AAHID, IIDA, CID, currently serves as the Post Certification Regent for the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers.
Betsy is the President and Senior Healthcare Designer for Design Concepts Unlimited in Sausalito CA, with more than 30 years of healthcare design specifically Continuing Care Centers, Alzheimer’s (Special Care), Senior Living and Adult Day Facilities.
A graduate of Wesleyan College and Georgia State University, Betsy is a past member of the Alzheimer’s Association National Board of Directors, a member of IIDA, a founding member of the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers, currently holds an advisory position with IESNA (Illuminating Engineering Society of North America), and is certified by the California Council for Interior Design Certification.
Ms. Brawley has gained national and international recognition as an expert and industry leader in the area of design for aging populations. She is the author of three significant research based books about design for Alzheimer’s population and environments. Betsy publishes and speaks regularly about design for older adults and Alzheimer’s care environments. She was awarded the ASID 1998 Polsky Prize for her landmark book: Designing for Alzheimer’s Disease: Strategies for Creating Better Care Environments. Her most recent book published is called Design Innovations for Aging and Alzheimer’s: Creating Caring Environments.
