From the CHD08 Conference.

Is there anything that discusses the long term effectiveness of the embedded antimicrobials products over a long period of time or lost of cleaning?

The durability of performance for embedded antimicrobials is a function of design.  When formulating we have the opportunity to use different grades of material with varying amounts or combinations of active ingredients.  In addition, the loading of the selected grade into a surface material can be adjusted to meet the needs of the application.

Long-term evaluations of the Agion technology include:
-Survival of a year of outdoor exposure in Florida, and it was still going strong.
-Passing the NSF 42 Bacteriostatic water filter certification testing over a 90 day period
-Two successful clinical trials of catheters containing Agion
-Samples stored for 7 years demonstrate high performance
-Beverage container maintains performance after over 1800 industrial kitchen washes.
-Antimicrobial fabric enduring 80 washes and still performing

Note that some applications are short (the catheters were used for no longer than a few weeks), while others, such as the 1800 washes, are very harsh.  Those applications used very different formulations that were customized to the particular application.
