A question from the HCD08 Conference.

Doesn’t long term silver exposure lead to “silver poisoning” - blue skin?

No, not normal exposure.  The “Blue Man” was generating his own silver solutions with unknown concentration (but estimated to be in high PPM range) and was consuming it several times a day for 14 years.

Silver has been used in water filtration for decades.  Most consumer pitcher filters contain silver to control bacteria, including the one that is probably in your refrigerator.  Those release silver in the range of 50-100 PPB at first, but dropping to less than 20 PPB within a few refills.  EPA regulations limit the amount of silver to 100 PPB.  In fact, in recent years the EPA increased the allowable silver in water from 50PPB to 100 PPB because there is no negative health effect.  If the “Blue Man” was preparing his solutions at 500 PPM - that’s over 10,000 times the average concentrations seen in a pitcher.

Actually, the Blue Man is a great statement for the safety of silver.  Note in the articles about him that the doctors quoted comment that he is otherwise perfectly healthy.  How many compounds can be consumed at 10,000 times the recommended safe amount and not cause any negative health effect?  Salt?  No that would kill you.  Any vitamin?  No.  It’s a testament to the poor absorption and efficient removal of silver by the body.
